San Angelo Man Arrested for Robbery After Violent Attack on Woman

SAN ANGELO, Texas – A San Angelo resident has been taken into custody on charges of robbery after a violent incident involving a woman and a stolen cellphone. Michael Walkner, a 64-year-old man residing in San Angelo, was arrested on Wednesday for the crime of robbery.

Court documents reveal that on May 1, 2024, law enforcement officers were informed by the victim that she was staying at a residence in the 3300 block of Adrian Street when Walkner entered the premises. Allegedly, Walkner confronted the victim regarding a work-related matter, resulting in a physical altercation.

The situation escalated as Walkner forcefully pushed the woman out of her seat, leading her to seek refuge by locking herself in the bathroom. Ignoring her attempts to evade him, Walkner proceeded to break down the bathroom door and physically assault the victim before absconding with her cellphone.

Following his apprehension, Walkner was taken into custody and the stolen property was recovered at a separate location on the 1600 block of Catalina Drive. Subsequently, Walkner was subjected to a Mirandized interview where he purportedly confessed to the theft of the phone, after waiving his rights.

On May 1, 2024, Walkner was officially booked into the Tom Green County Jail and remains detained on a $100,000 bond. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the necessity for vigilance and safety in everyday interactions. Authorities urge the community to prioritize personal security and report any suspicious activities promptly to prevent similar occurrences.
