Rochester, New York – A Rochester man was found guilty of a brutal assault on his teenage niece that left her in a coma after sustaining severe injuries, including life-threatening swelling to her brain.
Prosecutors revealed that the 34-year-old Jacob Seffens was involved in a sexual relationship with the victim, who tried to end the relationship on June 14. In a fit of rage, Seffens attacked the teenager with a baseball bat, resulting in the catastrophic injuries.
Medical professionals at Strong Memorial Hospital worked tirelessly to stabilize the victim, who is now expected to make a full recovery from the traumatic incident.
Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gallagher commended the young woman for her bravery in facing her attacker in court. Gallagher stated, “This survivor faced a terrible trauma and was courageous enough to face her assailant in court. I would like to thank this young woman for her bravery in sharing her story, which will help prevent Jacob Seffens from hurting anyone else.”
Seffens is now awaiting sentencing, where he could face a sentence ranging from five to 25 years in prison. The sentencing is scheduled for May 28.
