Richmond Man Convicted in Fatal Father’s Day Shooting Spree

Richmond, California – A man from Oakland has been convicted by the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office for his involvement in a deadly shooting that took place at a house party in Richmond in 2021. Enrique Ramirez-Calmo, along with another shooter, was responsible for the deaths of three individuals and the injuries of four others at a Father’s Day celebration. The violent incident occurred on Dunn Avenue near 20th Street and was fueled by mistaken identity and gang rivalry.

Authorities revealed that Ramirez-Calmo faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for his role in the tragic event. The shooting, which took place on June 20, was carried out by Ramirez-Calmo and a fellow gang member, who was only 17 years old at the time. The victims, all males between the ages of 18 to 45, were attending a “marimba” party that was advertised on social media platform Facebook.

Law enforcement made significant progress in the case when they discovered a ballistic match from a separate shooting in Oakland that occurred on the same night as the house party shooting in Richmond. Additionally, video footage captured the suspects arriving at the party in a Nissan Altima. In March 2022, Ramirez-Calmo and the teenage shooter were apprehended by the police.

During the trial, prosecutors presented compelling evidence, including a video recorded by one of the victims during the shooting. District Attorney Diana Becton expressed her dismay over the senseless violence that impacted multiple families. Ramirez-Calmo was found guilty on three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted murder, and various gang-related charges.

The jury delivered their verdict earlier this week, paving the way for Ramirez-Calmo’s sentencing scheduled for March 11 in Martinez. The case, according to the deputy district attorney, presented numerous challenges due to its complexity and the gravity of the crimes committed. The verdict brings a semblance of closure to the grieving families and a sense of justice for the victims of this tragic incident.
