Richmond Community Mourns Teen Fatally Shot Amidst Growing Outcry for End to Gun Violence

Richmond, Virginia – A 16-year-old teenager from Henrico County tragically lost his life after a shooting incident in Richmond’s Whitcomb Court neighborhood. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital following a life-threatening gunshot wound. This marks the second deadly shooting of a teenager in Richmond within a span of two weeks. Just recently, a 14-year-old boy was also fatally shot in the city.

Community members, including James Minor, President of Richmond’s NAACP chapter, have expressed outrage and sorrow over the recurring gun violence plaguing the area. Residents recounted the events leading up to the shooting, describing an altercation between the victim and the shooter at a basketball court near the neighborhood playground. The sound of gunshots left residents shaken and deeply concerned.

Minor emphasized the urgent need to implement preventative measures to curb gun violence and prevent further tragedies. He expressed frustration at the repetitive cycle of attending funerals for young victims of gun violence and called for community unity in addressing the issue.
