Renton man killed in car theft attempt

RENTON, WA – A tragic incident unfolded in Renton’s Victoria Hills neighborhood early Saturday, leaving a community in mourning after a car theft attempt turned fatal. Authorities report that a 35-year-old man was killed while trying to prevent his vehicle from being stolen.

The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. on South 27th Place, where the victim confronted two individuals attempting to steal his car. In a desperate bid to stop them, he clung to the driver’s side window as the suspects drove away. Tragically, he was dragged around a corner and shot by one of the suspects. Despite his wife’s efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries in their driveway.

The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s white Kia Sorento, which was later found abandoned along with another vehicle. This deadly incident adds to a recent spate of car-related crimes in Renton, where more than 60 vehicles were targeted the previous weekend. Among those thefts, four unsecured firearms were stolen, raising concerns about escalating violence.

Residents in the Victoria Hills area expressed their shock and sorrow, describing the victim as a good neighbor. Many are frustrated by the apparent lack of fear among criminals who seem undeterred by potential consequences. One neighbor lamented the loss, emphasizing that no vehicle is worth a human life.

Renton police have not yet made any arrests related to these incidents and are urging residents with surveillance footage to review their recordings between 3:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. in hopes of identifying the suspects. Authorities are investigating whether this latest incident is connected to the previous wave of car break-ins.

The community remains on edge as they grapple with the recent surge in crime, highlighting the urgent need for increased security measures. Local leaders are calling for more vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to address the growing threat.

As the investigation continues, Renton police are committed to bringing those responsible to justice and restoring a sense of safety to the community. Anyone with information about the crimes is encouraged to contact local authorities.
