Prime Suspect Arrested in 2013 Hilltown Home Invasion and Murder After Decade-Long Investigation

HILLTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – A Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged in connection with a decade-old crime that shocked the community. Thomas Delgado, 50, faces a slew of felony charges, including homicide and kidnapping, for the 2013 murder of Joseph Canazaro and the assault on Canazaro’s girlfriend.

Authorities revealed that Canazaro was targeted and that there appeared to be a connection between Canazaro and Delgado two years prior to the fatal home invasion. The arrest came after DNA tested years after the crimes led to a breakthrough in the case.

Delgado and another masked man broke into Canazaro’s home, tied up the family, and stole various items, including jewelry, guns, and money. The men then proceeded to kill Canazaro and rape his girlfriend before fleeing the scene in a stolen truck.

After a thorough investigation, police discovered surveillance video showing two men retrieving items from the stolen pickup truck and loading them into another vehicle. However, the second suspect involved in the home invasion remains at large.

In 2019, a significant breakthrough occurred when detectives reexamined the stolen pickup truck and found items that matched the description of what the suspects wore during the home invasion. The items were sent for DNA analysis, which indicated a possible match with Thomas Delgado.

The girlfriend, who was also a victim in the attack, confirmed that she did not know Delgado and did not recognize him as her assailant. Phone records also revealed multiple calls from a number associated with Delgado to Canazaro in the years leading up to the murder.

This arrest sheds new light on a case that had baffled investigators for years and offers hope for the victims’ families. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring the second suspect to justice. Canazaro’s tragic death remains a haunting reminder of the need for justice and closure for the affected families.
