Police Officer’s 20-Year-Long Murder Case Ends with Final Conviction

Bradford, West Yorkshire – After nearly 20 years, the last member of an armed gang responsible for the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky has been found guilty of her death. Piran Ditta Khan, 75, was convicted for his role in the killing of the West Yorkshire Police officer, who was shot during a raid at a Bradford travel agents in November 2005.

Prior to her tragic death, PC Beshenivsky was on the brink of wrapping up her shift and heading home to celebrate her daughter’s fourth birthday. Interrupting a robbery at the travel agents, she was fatally shot, while her colleague, Teresa Milburn, sustained serious injuries but survived.

Andy Brennan, the former Detective Superintendent in charge of the manhunt, expressed his fulfillment in keeping his promise to PC Beshenivsky’s husband, Paul, by ensuring all those responsible faced justice. The gang responsible had escaped with only £5,000 but were eventually apprehended, with Khan managing to evade capture for nearly two decades.

Throughout the investigation, it became clear that Khan was the mastermind behind the robbery, orchestrating the crime due to the substantial amount of cash he believed was at the travel agents. Despite fleeing to Pakistan before his arrest, relentless efforts led to his extradition back to the UK.

Brennan, who worked tirelessly on the case, reflects on the bravery of PC Beshenivsky and PC Milburn, praising their courage in responding to the silent alarm that led them to the scene of the crime. He further emphasizes that justice was served with Khan’s conviction, promising from the start that every individual involved in the tragic events of that day would be held accountable.

With all responsible parties now brought to justice, the closure of this long-standing case brings a sense of peace to PC Beshenivsky’s family and the community. The unwavering dedication of law enforcement and the support of the public remain pivotal in seeking justice and honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
