FAYETTEVILLE, GA – A dramatic police chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in a shootout, leaving law enforcement puzzled and the community on edge. Last night, deputies from Fayette and Clayton counties pursued a stolen Jeep, leading to an unexpected exchange of gunfire with a female passenger.
The incident began around 7 p.m. when a Fayette County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle linked to a series of car break-ins in South Fulton. As the officer approached, the driver sped away, initiating a high-speed chase that traversed county lines multiple times.
Dashcam footage captured the moment Mya Danielle Gulley, the passenger in the stolen Jeep, leaned out of the window and fired shots at the pursuing patrol cars, a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood action film. The chase escalated as the Jeep crossed from Fayette County into Clayton County, with deputies in close pursuit.
The situation took a dangerous turn when gunfire erupted. The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office has since charged Gulley with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm during a crime. Additional charges include obstruction and reckless conduct for discharging a firearm near a highway.
The chase concluded near Mundy’s Mill High School when the Jeep crashed. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was wounded in a subsequent shootout with officers. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers were injured in the exchange. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to investigate the incident.
As of now, the driver remains hospitalized, and efforts are underway to confirm his identity. Meanwhile, Gulley is being held without bond at the Clayton County Jail, facing a slew of charges for her actions during the chase.
