Parking Spot Argument Turns Into Machete Assault Case

A woman told police she feared retaliation after the encounter.

HOUSTON, Texas — A University of Houston parking dispute has led to an aggravated assault warrant after police said a man threatened a woman with a machete while demanding her parking space.

The incident happened April 6 at about 9 p.m., according to university police records. Court documents identify the suspect as Ricky Greer. Investigators said the woman was visiting a loved one who attends the university when the confrontation unfolded.

The woman told police she was sitting inside her car when Greer got out of his vehicle, waved a machete and yelled for her to move. Police said she left the space, and Greer took the spot before leaving the parking lot.

Officers later contacted Greer and asked him to return to the lot, records show. The woman identified him there, according to investigators. A witness also told police Greer claimed he was a university employee during the confrontation.

A university source confirmed Greer worked at the school. A person with a similar name appears on the university’s website as an employee in the engineering school, but the university had not confirmed Greer’s current job status as of the latest report.

The woman told investigators she did not want to press charges because she feared retaliation against her relative, who is a student. Authorities still moved forward with the case, and a warrant was issued on an aggravated assault charge.

The case remained open nearly one month after the confrontation. Greer had not been arrested, and officials had not released additional details about the investigation, the parking lot location or any possible campus employment action.
