Mount Pleasant Man Sentenced to a Year in Prison for Series of Violent Assaults, Including Sexual Offense Against Young Women

Mount Pleasant, United Kingdom — A local man was sentenced to one year in prison for a series of aggressive assaults, including sexual assault, following incidents that occurred late last year in a public area known as The Kingsway. Nathan Bantick, 34, pleaded guilty to the charges in Swansea Crown Court, where details of his actions were revealed during the proceedings.

On November 26, 2022, Bantick was reported to have made inappropriate remarks to a group of young girls before physically assaulting an 18-year-old woman, inappropriately touching her on her thigh and groin. The situation escalated when his friend, Kevin Owen, confronted him about his behavior. Bantick responded with violence, knocking Owen to the ground and kicking him before retreating to the hostel where he was staying.

Approximately 15 minutes later, Owen returned to the hostel to inform the staff about Bantick’s behavior. Bantick then launched a second attack, again targeting Owen by knocking him down and delivering a brutal series of punches. As a result, Owen sustained serious injuries, including significant swelling, bruising, and the loss of two teeth, necessitating a visit to Morriston Hospital.

Judge Geraint Walters addressed Bantick directly in court, emphasizing the community’s valid concerns over street violence and predatory behavior. He described Bantick’s actions as a “gross interference with personal dignity.” The judge characterized the attack on Owen as “merciless and sustained,” underscoring the severity of Bantick’s conduct.

Bantick’s criminal history includes six prior convictions related to 11 offenses, among which is a notable 2014 incident when he attacked two women in a Swansea massage parlor while wearing a Santa hat. At that time, he was serving in the Royal Marines and was aware that a prison sentence would jeopardize his military career.

During the court proceedings, Bantick’s defense attorney portrayed him as genuinely remorseful for his actions, acknowledging his struggles with alcohol dependency. The court also heard that Bantick has been diagnosed with PTSD and OCD and is pending evaluation for ADHD treatment.

Law enforcement officials praised the courage demonstrated by the victim in coming forward. Detective Constable Ben Evans remarked that no one should feel subjected to unwanted and inappropriate advances in public spaces. He affirmed that Bantick’s actions warranted a severe response and reiterated the commitment to ensuring victims of sexual abuse receive respectful treatment throughout the judicial process.

Bantick will serve up to half of his sentence in custody before being eligible for release on license, as authorities remain vigilant in addressing violence against vulnerable individuals in their communities.
