Minneapolis Man Pleads Guilty in Connection with Killing of 12-Year-Old

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Minneapolis man has entered a guilty plea to charges related to a shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy in September 2021. Letterance Demont Grady, 42, pleaded guilty to aiding an offender, and is facing a sentence of just over 10 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 5.

Grady was initially charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of felony aiding an offender to avoid arrest. However, these charges were dismissed in 2023 due to the unavailability of the lead attorney from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for trial. The court’s unwillingness to reschedule the trial led to the dismissal.

Subsequently, charges were refiled against Grady, including four counts of second-degree murder and two counts of aiding an offender. An amended complaint filed on Dec. 6 added a count of aiding and abetting second-degree assault to the charges.

In a separate case, Grady’s son, Jeremiah Marquise Grady, was sentenced to just over 30 years in prison for the murder of 12-year-old London Bean in north Minneapolis. Jeremiah pleaded guilty to the charges in May, according to court documents.

According to court documents, Letterance Grady is not accused of pulling the trigger, but prosecutors allege that he is partly responsible for Bean’s death. The shooting occurred after a physical altercation between Bean and Jeremiah Grady’s younger brother.

Police reported that Jeremiah Grady, wearing a mask and all black, approached the property from the back and began shooting, hitting Bean twice. Surveillance video showed Letterance Grady driving his son to and from the scene.

During police interviews, Jeremiah Grady stated that his father encouraged him to retaliate and instructed him to shoot from the car.

The sentencing for Letterance Demont Grady is scheduled for Feb. 5. This case illustrates the complex nature of criminal prosecution and the legal implications of aiding and abetting in serious crimes. The tragic outcome of this incident serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on young lives.
