Miami Gardens Mourns 13-Year-Old George Harris Jr. After Tragic Shooting Incident

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Family, friends, and community members came together on Wednesday night to honor and remember 13-year-old George Harris Jr., who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident.

The gathering took place at Charles Hadley Park, where a mobile billboard displayed photos of Harris, reminding everyone of the young life that was taken too soon. According to investigators, the shooting occurred while Harris and others were playing video games inside a home in Miami Gardens. It is believed that they came into possession of a gun, which accidentally went off and struck Harris in the back of his head.

Harris’s football coach, Shanton Crummie, expressed profound sadness over the loss, emphasizing how much George was loved and how deeply he will be missed. Crummie also highlighted the tragic reality that a 13-year-old should not be taken away at such a young age, as they should be on the field practicing and living their lives to the fullest.

Teammates and friends shared their fond memories of Harris, describing him as a smart and intelligent individual, as well as a natural leader who got along with everyone. His English teacher, Antonette Whiteman, fondly remembered him as funny, charismatic, and someone who was loved by all.
