Montgomery County, Maryland – A recent shooting in Maryland resulting in the tragic death of a 2-year-old has brought to light information from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding the suspects involved. The fifth person arrested in connection with the shooting was identified as Nilson Granados-Trejo, who was confirmed to be in the United States illegally with a history of prior detainments.
ICE revealed that Granados-Trejo, aged 25, was previously ordered to be deported from Montgomery County in 2022 but was released on two separate occasions by county corrections officials. Currently facing charges of first and second-degree murder, he remains in the Department of Corrections under a no-bond status. The shooting, which took place on February 8 near Langley Park, involved Granados-Trejo and others engaged in violent activities related to drug trafficking in the area.
The incident led to the tragic injury and subsequent death of 2-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres, along with his wounded mother. Granados-Trejo’s arrest shed light on the failures of Montgomery County to honor 119 detainer requests for custody and deportation, as observed by WJLA Maryland Bureau Chief Brad Bell during a recent investigative report on ICE procedures.
Subsequently, several other individuals linked to the shooting have been apprehended, including a 15-year-old male from Takoma Park, a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville, 33-year-old Israel Fuentes Jr. of Lewisdale, and 28-year-old Johnny Turcios. While the two teenagers were charged as adults, Fuentes and Turcios were both denied bond in relation to the case.
Two additional persons of interest are being sought in connection with the shooting, as they were captured on camera fleeing in a 2003 gold Ford Explorer.
