Man Sentenced to Four Years for Violent Attack on Ex-Girlfriend’s Partner in Yarm

Yarm, England – A man in Yarm, England, was recently sentenced to four years in prison for a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. Jordan Kelly, 23, was under the influence of alcohol and armed with a knife during the incident at a block of flats where his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend resided, according to Teesside Crown Court.

The court heard that Kelly was in a “screaming rage” as he made multiple threats of death, punched, and bit the man. Prosecutors revealed that Kelly had been in a controlling and mentally abusive relationship with the woman for about seven years before it ended in July 2023. The violence escalated on September 8th when Kelly confronted his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, a former friend.

During the confrontation, Kelly threatened to kill both the couple and himself, held a knife to the man’s throat, and physically assaulted him. He also made disturbing statements about not letting anyone have his ex-girlfriend. Following a struggle with his ex-girlfriend and a physical altercation with a police officer upon his arrest, Kelly continued to display extreme aggression.

Kelly’s behavior was described as “screaming with rage” by witnesses, requiring the use of incapacitant spray to subdue him. Even at the hospital, he continued to express violent intentions towards the couple. The male victim sustained serious injuries, including temporary blindness in one eye for three weeks. Meanwhile, Kelly’s ex-partner described him as being “obsessed” with her, causing her to live in constant fear.

In court, Kelly admitted to charges of affray, assault, possession of a bladed article, assaulting an emergency worker, and making threats to kill. The judge overseeing the case characterized the attack as “prolonged and persistent”, emphasizing the dangerous nature of the weapon involved. An indefinite restraining order was issued to protect both victims from further harm, reflecting the severity of Kelly’s actions.
