Memphis police said no suspect information was immediately available after the early morning shooting.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was shot and killed early Wednesday at Getaway Sports Bar in Parkway Village, where Memphis police found him wounded shortly after 5:50 a.m. near Winchester Road and South Perkins Road.

Police said officers were called to the sports bar after a shooting was reported. The man was found with a gunshot wound and died at the scene. His name had not been released as of Thursday, and police had not announced an arrest.

The shooting brought officers to a busy commercial stretch in southeast Memphis before sunrise. Getaway Sports Bar is located at 4632 Winchester Road, near the South Perkins Road intersection. Police said the case remained under investigation, but they did not immediately release details about what led to the gunfire, whether the shooting happened inside or outside the business, or how many people were nearby when officers arrived.

Memphis police said officers responded just after 5:50 a.m. Wednesday and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The man died from his injuries at the scene. Police did not release a description of a possible shooter, a vehicle or any known motive. Officials also did not say whether investigators had recovered a weapon or surveillance video from the area.

The Parkway Village neighborhood includes homes, stores, restaurants and late-night businesses along Winchester Road. The intersection at South Perkins Road is a well-traveled area that connects drivers to several southeast Memphis corridors. The timing of the shooting, before the morning commute, placed police activity in the area as many residents were beginning the day.

No charges had been announced by Thursday. The next steps in the case include identifying the victim, reviewing evidence from the scene and determining whether witnesses saw the shooting or the moments before it. Police had not said when more information would be released.

The case stood as an active homicide investigation Thursday, with the victim still publicly unidentified and no suspect information released.
