Man Arrested in NYC Subway Attack Severing Woman’s Feet Previously Convicted of Stabbing and Threatening Child in Home Invasion

New York City, New York – A 35-year-old man with a history of violence was arrested for pushing his girlfriend onto the subway tracks in lower Manhattan, resulting in the severing of both her feet by an incoming train. The suspect, identified as Christian Valdez, had previously been convicted in a 2017 home invasion where he attacked a woman and threatened her child.

The incident took place at the Fulton Street subway station, where Valdez was captured about 11 hours after the attack. He has been charged with attempted murder and felony assault, with police stating that the victim, a 29-year-old woman, was pushed onto the tracks during a domestic dispute that escalated into violence.

Following the push, the victim was struck by a southbound No. 3 train and suffered severe injuries. She was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition but had both of her feet amputated as a result of the incident. Valdez was taken into custody and was awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

This is not the first time Valdez has been involved in a violent crime. In 2017, he was arrested for breaking into an apartment in the Bronx borough, where he stabbed a woman and attempted to throw her 3-year-old daughter off a fire escape. Despite these previous crimes, Valdez was released from prison in 2023 and was on parole at the time of the subway station attack.

The disturbing history of violence surrounding Valdez raises concerns about the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in dealing with repeat offenders. The case highlights the need for greater scrutiny and monitoring of individuals with a propensity for violence, especially after they have been released from prison. Authorities are working to ensure the safety of the public and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As the investigation continues and legal proceedings unfold, the victim of the subway attack is left to recover from her traumatic injuries. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in everyday situations and the importance of vigilance in protecting oneself from potential harm.
