Man Arrested for Violent Attack on Woman in Reno County

Hutchinson, Kansas – Law enforcement in Reno County are currently investigating a disturbing incident involving a violent attack on a woman, resulting in an arrest being made in connection to the case.

The incident took place just before 5 p.m. on a Friday when police received a call regarding a stabbing at a residence in the 1300 block of North Arthur in Hutchinson. First responders arrived at the scene to find a woman with life-threatening injuries. She was promptly transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center before being transferred to a Wichita hospital, where she remains in serious but stable condition.

Following an investigation, authorities were able to identify a suspect in the case. At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, Joseph D. Castorena, a 41-year-old resident of Hutchinson, was taken into custody on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Sexual Battery, and Parole Violation.

Records from the Kansas Department of Corrections revealed Castorena’s history of prior convictions, which include offenses such as robbery, counterfeiting, aggravated battery, aiding a felon, criminal possession of a firearm, and drug-related charges.
