Lake Jackson police: 67-year-old hospitalized after reported sexual assault

Detectives say evidence points to no broader threat as they gather statements and process the scene.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas — A 67-year-old woman was taken to a local emergency room after an early-morning sexual assault at a home on the 400 block of Huisache Street on Saturday, Nov. 22, police said. Officers arrived around 6:44 a.m., found the woman injured and began an investigation at the scene.

Lake Jackson police say detectives are collecting evidence and interviewing those involved to determine what happened inside the home before dawn. The department has not released the woman’s name, a suspect’s identity or a possible motive. Based on evidence and the woman’s account, officials said they do not believe others in the area face an immediate risk. The case remains open, and additional information is expected once investigators complete key steps, including lab reviews and follow-up interviews.

Neighbors described a heavy police presence after sunrise as officers restricted access to the block. “So sad. Yeah, it’s so sad,” neighbor Arlette Gutierrez said. Another resident said she stepped outside to walk her dogs and was asked to stay back while evidence technicians worked, explaining that investigators wanted to avoid “extra footprints.” The woman who was assaulted was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Brazosport for treatment and a forensic examination, according to police. Detectives spent hours documenting the scene and speaking with residents on the street to narrow the timeline.

In an afternoon update, the department said the investigation was progressing with the victim’s cooperation. Detective Sergeant Kevin Nutt, the police public information officer, said detectives were processing physical evidence and compiling statements. Officials have not publicly confirmed whether there was forced entry. They have not announced an arrest, person of interest or a detailed description connected to the case. The agency reiterated that, at this stage, it sees no perceived threat beyond the incident under review. The woman’s condition was not released, and police did not specify the nature of her injuries beyond confirming she needed examination and care.

The block where officers responded sits in a residential area a short drive from downtown Lake Jackson. Residents said patrol cars and marked units lined the street after the call. “My daughter is here all the time. She’s only 11, and it’s scary to know that someone might be lurking in the neighborhood,” neighbor Emily Lunford said. Police tape was used to mark off sections of the street while detectives canvassed for cameras and witnesses. The department asked standard investigative questions, including recent visitors to the home, noises heard before the call and whether any doorbell footage captured movement around the property between late Friday and early Saturday.

Procedurally, the case will continue with victim services coordination, evidence submission to crime labs and review by investigators and supervisors. If detectives identify a suspect and gather probable cause, the agency could seek a warrant through Brazoria County. Police did not set a date for a formal briefing but indicated updates would follow once key facts are verified. Any future court proceedings would begin with an arrest or a sworn complaint, followed by an initial appearance and, if applicable, a grand jury review. As of Tuesday, no charging documents had been filed, and the department maintained that details remain limited while the inquiry is active.

By evening, the block had reopened, though residents said the day felt anything but routine. Several neighbors spoke quietly in driveways as patrol units rotated through the area. A woman who lives nearby said she saw officers knock on doors and speak with people up and down the street. Others described a normally quiet neighborhood where early-morning sirens are rare. “It’s unsettling,” Lunford said. “We just want to know what happened and that she’s going to be okay.”

As of late Tuesday, police had not announced an arrest, and the department said the next update would come when detectives complete a round of interviews and evidence reviews later this week.
