BRANDON, Miss. — The Brandon Police Department has arrested a juvenile in connection with a shooting that resulted in the deaths of two 18-year-olds. The incident took place on Mary Myles Drive and Mary Crain Circle, where officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots being fired in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Joseph French revealed that one of the victims was found inside a blue SUV, while the other was located just outside the vehicle, which bore several bullet holes. The victims were identified as Montrell Briggs of Florence and JaMarques Patterson of Pearl.
The investigation swiftly led to the arrest of a juvenile, who has been charged with the murders of Briggs and Patterson. Chief French stated that additional charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault are pending.
Local resident Zabran Taylor expressed shock and concern, stating, “I never thought I would have to wake up to something like that. It shakes you up and makes you think a lot about it. Like I said, my kids are out here. My son gets off the bus out here.” Police have indicated that they have a possible motive for the shooting, but have refrained from releasing further information as the investigation is still ongoing.
