CAMBRIDGE, England – A man has been sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for violently assaulting his partner in their Cambridge home.
Dannie McGavigan, 43, was charged after repeatedly punching his partner in the face and dragging her through the house following an argument about a message from another woman in April. The victim’s daughter called the police, but McGavigan had fled the scene before the officers arrived.
McGavigan, who has no fixed address, was later arrested and pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm. He was sentenced at Huntingdon Law Courts on December 22 for this offence and a separate one of stalking and harassment in another county.
Detective Constable Callum Fullwood stated, “McGavigan is clearly a danger to others and I’m pleased he has been brought to justice for this cowardly and violent attack. I hope the conclusion of the court process will help bring the victim some closure.”
The police urge anyone who is a victim of domestic abuse to contact them or call the national domestic violence helpline on 0808 2000 247.
In conclusion, Dannie McGavigan has been sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for violently assaulting his partner, demonstrating the serious consequences of domestic abuse.
