HOUSTON, TX – A manhunt is underway after a deadly shooting incident occurred early Tuesday morning in the Midtown area of Houston. The suspect, who police say was caught attempting to break into cars, is still at large.
Authorities reported that the shooting took place around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Bagby and McKinley streets. The confrontation began when a group of individuals, including the owner of one of the targeted vehicles, challenged the suspect. This encounter quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire.
The tragic outcome left a 21-year-old man dead. A second victim, a 22-year-old man, sustained injuries to his upper body and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.
Residents in the area have expressed concerns over the frequency of car break-ins, noting that such incidents are not uncommon during the early morning hours. One local resident commented on the abundance of vehicles parked on the streets, attributing the issue to limited parking availability.
The suspect is described as a man under six feet tall with distinctive dreadlocks featuring yellow or gold tips. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly dressed in all black. Police are actively searching for the individual and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The community has voiced a desire for increased police presence, suggesting more patrols, potentially on bicycles, to deter such criminal activities. Residents hope that enhanced police visibility could help prevent future incidents and improve safety in the neighborhood.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. They are also seeking to determine whether the suspect may be connected to other recent car break-ins in the area.
The Houston Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact law enforcement immediately.
