Houston Man Charged After Pregnant Woman Found Dead

Ashanti Allen disappeared April 10 and was found six days later near Chimney Rock Park.

HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston man accused of killing 23-year-old Ashanti Allen, who was eight months pregnant, was arrested April 20 in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, after police said her body was found in southwest Houston.

Kevin Faux, 24, is charged with capital murder in the 228th Criminal District Court. Houston police said Faux was the father of Allen’s unborn child. The case has drawn attention because Allen had been missing for nearly a week before searchers found her body near Chimney Rock Road, and court records describe new evidence that led investigators to name Faux as the suspect.

Allen disappeared April 10 after she was last seen leaving her apartment complex near South Main Street. Court records cited by investigators say someone used Allen’s resident app at 2:22 a.m. to open a door at the complex. Minutes later, surveillance video showed Allen walking with Faux into the parking garage. Her vehicle left the garage at 2:25 a.m., driven by someone matching Faux’s description. At 3:50 a.m., Allen’s mother received a text from Allen’s phone saying, “I’m leaving I’m not coming back.” Family members said the message did not sound like Allen.

Allen’s mother went to the apartment and found Allen’s car missing from its usual spot. Court records say Allen’s purse was inside, but it appeared to have been emptied. Her wallet, identification and credit card were missing. Investigators also described a FaceTime call at 3:17 a.m. on April 10, in which Faux allegedly told a witness he had killed someone and showed what appeared to be a body in a wooded area. The records say Faux later sent messages claiming he had to fight for his life.

Houston police and Texas EquuSearch found Allen’s body about 9 a.m. April 16 at 11655 Chimney Rock Road. Police later identified her as Allen. Charging documents said she was found with a cord wrapped around her neck at least twice and tied in a knot. Officials said an autopsy would determine the cause and manner of death. Her unborn son, identified by family as Jaxon, also died. Police first charged Faux with murder, then upgraded the charge to capital murder.

Faux was named as a suspect April 17, while police searched for him. Investigators said they learned he had left Texas. U.S. Marshals arrested him April 20 in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Houston police said he was awaiting extradition to Harris County. Authorities have not publicly released a full extradition timeline.

The case also brought new focus to Faux’s earlier court history. Records cited by local reports show Faux had been charged in 2025 with assault involving Allen and later pleaded guilty to a reduced family violence charge. He received a 280-day sentence in February, but he was released with credit for time served. Allen’s family has questioned why he was not still in custody when she disappeared.

Family members described Allen as quiet, sweet and excited to become a mother. Her father, Edward Allen, said the loss of his daughter and grandson left him numb. At a vigil near Chimney Rock Park, relatives and friends gathered with candles and balloons while calling for answers in the criminal case.

Faux remains charged with capital murder and is expected to face proceedings in Harris County after his return from Louisiana. The next major step is his transfer to Texas and his first court appearance in the capital murder case.
