Houston Couple Faces Charges in Connection to Tragic Death of Twin Infants

Houston, Texas – A tragic case involving the death of twin infants in October 2023 has led to charges being filed against a man and a woman, according to court documents.

Authorities have charged Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, both 21 years old, with two counts each of injury to a child-serious bodily injury. The incident, which initially appeared to involve no foul play, unfolded in a home on Linden Creek Lane.

The babies, identified as Massail and Mirena Vega by relatives, were found unresponsive in their crib by their father, Vega. Despite his efforts to perform CPR while on the phone with dispatch, the premature twins did not survive. The children’s mother, Calderon, reportedly saw the babies the next day but did not disturb them as she was heading to work.

Upon further examination, authorities discovered that the infants had not received medical check-ups post-hospital discharge. The autopsy determined that the cause of death was multiple injuries inflicted by a blunt object.

Calderon’s sister defended her as a devoted mother, while Calderon expressed disbelief over the tragic outcome of events. Family members also shared concerns about Vega’s past abusive behavior towards Calderon, indicating a history of unlawful restraint leading up to the incident.

Investigations revealed disturbing details about the twins’ condition, with reports of malnourishment and injuries dating back several weeks. Both suspects were subsequently arrested without incident following the discovery of the twins’ tragic fate.

As authorities continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding the infants’ deaths, the community is left grappling with the heartbreaking loss and seeking justice for the innocent lives lost.
