Gunman Opens Fire at Detroit-Area Splash Pad, Injuring Nine People and Himself

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. — A tragic incident unfolded at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in this suburban Detroit community on Saturday, leaving nine individuals wounded. Reports from authorities indicate that shots were fired at the water park, resulting in multiple injuries. The suspected shooter has been confirmed deceased by police.

Among the injured were an 8-year-old boy who sustained a critical head injury and a 4-year-old boy who was in stable condition after being wounded in the thigh. Additionally, their 39-year-old mother was in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen. Several other victims, including a 39-year-old woman with back and arm wounds, a 30-year-old man with a leg wound, a 78-year-old man with an abdomen wound, a 37-year-old woman with a hand wound, a 40-year-old man with a knee wound, and a 30-year-old woman, were reported to be in stable condition.

According to Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, the suspected gunman was found deceased at the scene, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The sheriff emphasized the gravity of the situation, expressing disbelief at having to address another active shooter incident.

The shooting, which occurred around 5:11 p.m. EDT, led to at least nine individuals, with the possibility of ten, sustaining various injuries. Investigations are currently ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Officials have urged the public to avoid the area around the splash pad as it remains an active crime scene. It is believed that the shooting was a random act, with the shooter reportedly opening fire upon arrival at the water park.
