Gunman Kills Security Guard in Doral Nightclub Shooting: Suspect Identified and Dead

Doral, Florida – Authorities have identified a 37-year-old man, Jamal Wayne Wood, as the suspected shooter in an incident that resulted in the death of a security guard and injuries to seven others in Doral, a city located approximately five miles west of Miami. The shooting took place early on a Saturday morning following a confrontation among patrons at a local establishment, as reported by Doral Police Department spokesperson Alicia Neal.

During the exchange of gunfire with police officers at the scene, Wood was killed, and a Doral Police Department officer was also injured. The slain security guard was identified as 23-year-old George Alejandro Castellanos by Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta during a press conference on Saturday morning. Subsequent to the shooting, six bystanders also suffered gunshot wounds, with one critically injured individual transported to Jackson Trauma Center and another to Kendall Regional Trauma Center, according to Zabaleta.

The incident, which transpired at the Martini Bar, a nightclub in CityPlace Doral, involved Doral police officers who responded on-site. Notably, Doral police officers had conducted active shooter training at the same establishment in a mass casualty drill a year prior to the incident, according to Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez. William Suedois, a resident nearby, recounted hearing rapid gunshots during the event, expressing fear and shock at the intensity of the situation.

The injured police officer, who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, applied a tourniquet promptly after being struck, noted Zabaleta. Additionally, four other victims were reported to be in stable condition by Neal. Both the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are cooperating in the ongoing investigation of the incident.
