Gun Violence Trial: Key Testimony Reveals Chilling Details of Retaliatory Shooting That Injured Young Girls

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Kani Little took the witness stand on June 13 to provide a detailed account of his involvement in a violent retaliatory shooting that occurred nearly three years prior. The jury heard how the armed attack, rooted in a confrontation earlier that day, resulted in serious injuries to two young girls—one aged 6 with a bruised lung and another, just 4 years old, who faced life-threatening injuries to her arm and chest.

Little admitted to his part in the incident that unfolded on the 4900 block of Cumberland Street on August 11, 2022, although he attempted to distance himself from co-defendants Brianna Smith and Darrell Henderson. He did, however, deny any role concerning Michael Roberts Jr. His testimony came during the fifth day of a trial focusing on the attempted murder charges against those involved in the shooting, which left a household terrorized and two children fighting for their lives.

During her testimony, Smith described being coerced into driving the shooters to the location where they believed Fritz Volcy was staying, revealing the tension that preceded the gunfire. In contrast, Little characterized Smith’s actions as premeditated, claiming she harbored anger toward Volcy and willingly participated in planning the attack. According to court proceedings, hours before the shooting, Little had been involved in a confrontation with Volcy and an accomplice, leading to a robbery.

Following that altercation, Little and Henderson regrouped with Smith before picking up Roberts. With emotions running high, the group proceeded to Cumberland Street armed with multiple firearms. In a grave turn, they opened fire after a family member’s movement caught their attention, showering the residence with over 30 bullets.

As a result of the random violence, the two girls, who were asleep at the time, became innocent victims. The 6-year-old sustained a bullet graze, but her younger companion faced far more severe consequences, suffering severe nerve damage and internal injuries that required extensive medical intervention.

Sentencing for the defendants is slated for August 20, 2025, presided over by Judge William T. Tully. Henderson has already accepted a plea agreement, while charges related to drug and firearm offenses were also brought against Petit-Phare and Volcy.

The investigation, led by Detective Patrick Corkle of the Swatara Township Criminal Investigation Division, involved relentless efforts to uncover the full extent of this violent incident. Legal proceedings have been overseen by Deputy District Attorney Meredith Pfundheller and Chief Deputy District Attorney Katie Adam, both of whom were present on the night of the shooting and have played crucial roles in pursuing justice for the victims.
