Oxford, MI — A tragic incident on Christmas Eve involving a good Samaritan has led to serious criminal charges against a Flint man. Malik Letroy Webb, 29, faces a 19-count felony warrant that includes counts of felony murder and carjacking following a deadly shooting in Oxford that killed one woman and injured two others.
On the evening of Dec. 24, authorities reported that Dr. Barbara Wolf died after she was shot by Webb when she stopped to help him. Her vehicle had pulled over near Ray Road and North Oxford Road at around 6:15 PM after she noticed Webb’s car had veered into a ditch. During the incident, Wolf’s 38-year-old daughter, who was also in the car, was shot and is currently hospitalized in serious condition.
Additionally, a 56-year-old man from Oxford, who had also stopped to assist, suffered a gunshot wound to the arm but has since been treated and released. In a linked event, a 39-year-old woman from Oxford Township was held at gunpoint by Webb in an unsuccessful carjacking attempt during the same ordeal.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard expressed his distress over the situation, highlighting the broader implications of recidivism among convicted felons. “This violent and heinous act is tragic on every level,” Bouchard said. “This is a stark example of the dangers of allowing convicted felons with histories of weapon charges back into society where they can cause more harm.”
Webb, who has a criminal record, was arraigned without bond in Novi’s 52-1 District Court. His charges are extensive, reflecting the severity of the episode. They include felony murder with an underlying felony of carjacking, three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felonious assault, and several firearm-related charges, among them possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and nine counts of felony firearm possession in the third degree.
The legal consequences for Webb are severe, with a conviction for felony murder potentially leading to mandatory life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The case has drawn attention to issues surrounding gun control and criminal justice, particularly the challenges of preventing repeat offenses by convicted felons.
Community members and local authorities are urging anyone with more information about the incident to come forward as investigations continue. The case has not only left a community in mourning but also sparked broader discussions about safety and the effectiveness of current laws in preventing such fatal incidents.
