FBI agent: Katy man in murder scheme pressured friends to keep quiet

HOUSTON, TX – In a dramatic turn of events, a Katy resident named Michael Seri has been ordered to remain behind bars as federal authorities investigate his alleged involvement in a murder-for-hire plot. The decision follows a recent FBI operation that uncovered a significant number of firearms in his possession.

The courtroom was abuzz as prosecutors laid out their case, asserting that Seri played a crucial role in planning a hit on a man during the busy morning hours in February. Although the victim survived, the incident has led to the arrest of Seri’s employee, Ricardo Obando, and Obando’s stepson, both facing serious charges of attempted capital murder.

Testimony presented in court shed light on Seri’s alleged confession to a witness, where he admitted to paying Obando for the attack. Despite not revealing the victim’s identity or his reasons, Seri allegedly described Obando as a seasoned hitman linked to a notorious gang.

Prosecutors also disclosed that Seri had been financially supporting Obando’s family and covering legal costs to prevent cooperation with law enforcement. In response, Seri’s attorney challenged the lack of formal charges, questioning the absence of a grand jury indictment as a measure of probable cause.

For now, Seri’s charges are limited to the firearms discovered during the FBI raid. The judge’s decision to keep him in custody reflects concerns over public safety, highlighting the severity of the accusations. Additionally, prosecutors noted that Seri’s wife has requested a protective order, and he allegedly contacted an ex-girlfriend to advocate on his behalf to federal agents.

The unfolding investigation continues to draw attention, raising critical questions about the alleged conspiracy and its broader implications. As the legal process progresses, all eyes remain on the developments in this high-stakes case.
