Seattle, Washington – Seattle Police detectives are investigating the tragic death of a 9-month-old child who was shot in the head by their father in the Magnolia neighborhood. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the 3000 block of 21st Ave. W, near the Interbay Athletic Complex.
Law enforcement initially responded to reports of a man firing a gun at two individuals, narrowly missing them and hitting nearby parked cars. The suspected shooter was identified as 35-year-old Dion Montgomery. Shortly after, a distressing call came in reporting that a woman had been shot and was seen running outside with her baby. It was later revealed that the woman was Montgomery’s wife.
According to court documents, the child’s mother discovered the horrific scene inside their apartment after hearing a gunshot. Despite her efforts to intervene, the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Montgomery’s wife shared with police that he had a history of carrying a gun and had admitted to using PCP before the tragic event, attributing his actions to “demons.”
Following the incident, both parents were taken into custody for questioning. Montgomery, with a record of 16 prior arrests and 14 felony charges, including theft, assault, burglary, and unlawful possession of a firearm, was booked into King County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Bail has been set at $5 million.
