Father Shocked as Son Killed in Indianapolis Bar Shootout, Seeking Answers

Indianapolis, Indiana – A tragic incident unfolded outside a bar on the east side of Indianapolis, resulting in the death of a man and injuries to five others, including an IMPD officer. The altercation began in the early hours of the morning at the 1111 Bar & Grille, where two off-duty IMPD officers ejected a patron after a dispute involving a woman inside the establishment.

Following the altercation, while attending to a separate medical emergency with an EMS crew, gunfire erupted in the bar’s parking lot. The chaotic scene led to four individuals and one officer sustaining injuries, with one wounded man being taken to the hospital in a vehicle. The injured man, identified as Dominique Durham, 37, arrived at Community East Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s father, William Durham, expressed shock over the involvement of his son in a police shooting and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his son’s transportation to the hospital. He emphasized disbelief that the gun found at the scene belonged to his son, fueling his skepticism about the events that transpired.

IMPD Chief Christopher Bailey addressed the media, highlighting the ongoing investigation to piece together the evidence, review surveillance footage, and gather witness testimonies. The situation at the bar prompted IMPD to impose a ban on off-duty work at the establishment, citing recent ownership changes and concerns about public safety.

As the community grapples with the tragic aftermath of the shootout, questions linger about the sequence of events leading to the fatal outcome. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the truth behind the incident and provide closure to the victim’s family and the affected individuals recovering from their injuries.
