Father Mourns Murdered Teen Brianna Ghey, Describes Killers as “Monsters”

Warrington, England – The father of Brianna Ghey, a murdered teenager, has expressed his deep pain and anger at the sentencing of her killers. Last February, 16-year-old Brianna was brutally murdered in a park in Cheshire. Her father, Peter Spooner, described the killers as “a pair of monsters” and paid tribute to his “beautiful and talented” daughter, mourning the memories they will never get to make together.

Spooner expressed a sense of “complete and utter horror” at the brutality of Brianna’s murder and conveyed feelings of anger and hatred towards her killers. The anonymity order for the two teenagers, initially known as girl X and boy Y, was lifted by a judge at Manchester Crown Court, revealing their names as Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe for the first time. Brianna, who was transgender, was stabbed to death in a “sustained and violent assault” using a hunting knife in Culcheth, near Warrington.

During the trial, it was revealed that the murderers had a “thirst for killing” and had planned Brianna’s murder in detail. Additionally, they had exchanged messages about killing people and had drafted a list of four other potential victims. Both Jenkinson and Ratcliffe had blamed each other for the killing during their trial and police interviews.

Mr. Spooner expressed a change in opinion regarding the decision to make the names of the perpetrators public, now believing that they should simply be forgotten, locked up, and never spoken of again. He also shared the family’s comfort in the outpouring of love for Brianna in the days following her tragic murder, but admitted to still struggling with grief and anger over her death.

The heart-wrenching loss of Brianna has left her father continuously reminiscing over the moments they could have shared and mourning the fact that he wasn’t there to protect her from the senseless violence that took her life.
