Father Found Dead in Columbus Home, Son Arrested for Murder

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Columbus Police Department has identified a suspect in the 2023 murder of Billy Haynes on Lawyers Lane. Shockingly, the accused perpetrator is none other than Haynes’ own son.

Authorities were alerted to the situation on November 19, 2023, when a welfare check was requested at the residence on Lawyers Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased body of Haynes in a bedroom, his remains in an advanced state of decomposition.

Deputy Coroner Dustin Harrelson officially pronounced Haynes dead at 6:34 p.m. after determining that the cause of death was due to stab or puncture wounds. The investigation quickly turned into a homicide case as police began collecting evidence and sending materials to the GBI Crime Lab for analysis.

After an exhaustive inquiry, Columbus police announced that they had gathered enough evidence to obtain a warrant for the arrest of 31-year-old Samuel Haynes on charges of murder. The community is urged to come forward with any information that may aid in the case’s progression.
