According to West Palm Beach police spokesman Mike Jachles, the incident unfolded at the Quality Inn on Belvedere Road, just west of Interstate 95. The woman, believed to be 45 years old, was found with a gunshot wound in the motel’s back parking lot. Despite officers’ attempts to administer CPR, she was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Shortly after the shooting, a 60-year-old man reportedly entered a car with two boys, aged 10 and 17, who are believed to be the couple’s children from St. Lucie County. The man drove off with the boys in the vehicle, leading the authorities on a search that culminated at a Hertz car rental facility about a quarter mile away. It was there that officers located the suspect in the car. As they approached, the man took his own life, with no exchange of gunfire occurring.

The man was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center for emergency surgery but tragically succumbed to his injuries before 10:30 p.m. Throughout the ordeal, the two boys provided statements to the police department, shedding light on the harrowing events that transpired that fateful evening.
