Family of Woman Killed in DeKalb County Calls for Arrest of Shooter

DeKalb County, Georgia – The family of a woman tragically killed in DeKalb County last week is calling for the arrest of the shooter. The victim, a 35-year-old woman, was shot and killed by someone she knew, sparking a desire for justice from her grieving family.

According to Norell Combs, the cousin of the victim Jalisa Abney, Abney was a hardworking entrepreneur who had served in the Army and owned two businesses. On the day of the incident, Abney was at her place of business, a truck lot on Moreland Avenue, when the shooting took place.

The tragic event occurred when Abney and another individual were shot at the truck lot by a suspect known to them. Despite Abney’s strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, the violence of that day abruptly cut short her life.

The news of Abney’s shooting came as a shock to her family, with Combs receiving a text message notifying her of the incident. Despite living two hours away in Columbus, Georgia, Combs immediately drove to Atlanta upon hearing the news, only to find her cousin fighting for her life at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Unfortunately, Abney succumbed to her injuries the following day, leaving her family devastated by the senseless act of violence. As days went by without any updates on the investigation, the family grew increasingly anxious for answers and justice for Abney.

DeKalb County police confirmed that the suspect was acquainted with the victims, making the situation even more distressing for Abney’s loved ones. Despite knowing the identity of the perpetrator, the family expressed frustration at the lack of progress in making an arrest or releasing the suspect’s name to the public.

In response to inquiries from FOX 5, the DeKalb County Police Department assured that the suspect had been identified and efforts were underway to apprehend him. The department explained that withholding the suspect’s identity temporarily was necessary to prevent evasion and aid in a swift arrest.

Those with information on the case were urged to contact the DeKalb County Police Department, as the family continues to seek justice for the untimely loss of their beloved Jalisa Abney.
