Family of Murdered Moore County Woman Calls for Justice as Vigil is Held at Courthouse

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. – The family of Allisha Watts, a murdered Moore County woman, gathered for a vigil in front of the Montgomery County courthouse Tuesday. They are seeking justice for Watts, whose body was found a month after she was killed last July while visiting her boyfriend, James Dunmore, in Charlotte.

According to family and friends, investigators have not found any new evidence in the case, leaving them frustrated. However, officials have yet to release official cause of Watts’ death, adding to the family’s anguish.

Dunmore, accused of killing Watts, is currently behind bars on a $1 million bond. The family, however, wishes he did not have a bond at all and is urging for a faster progression of the case.

“Our patience is not that long. Even if the process is not completed soon, the evidence needs to be there. We need to be assured that this person will be punished to the greatest extent of the law,” Watts’ mentor, Dorothy Brower, said.

The family is hoping for a full accounting of Dunmore’s charges when he appears in court on Jan. 29.

Through the vigil and continued efforts, the family ultimately seeks closure and a thorough understanding of the events leading up to Allisha’s tragic death.

As the community gathers to support the family and seek justice for Watts, the growing frustration and eagerness for closure are evident. The call for a thorough investigation and swift movement in the legal process is paramount for the family to find peace and closure in the wake of this tragic loss.
