Family Mourns and Seeks Justice for Murdered MetroBus Operator

ST. LOUIS, MO – The tragic death of 30-year-old Markell Byrd, a hard-working bus driver who was gunned down on Monday, has left his family devastated. Byrd’s family describes him as a dedicated man who was committed to providing the best for his five children.

His family is asking for prayers, support, and answers as they struggle to come to terms with this senseless act of violence. Byrd’s mother, LaTarsha Tate, expressed her disbelief at the situation, saying, “I can’t make sense of it.”

Byrd, a graduate of Ranken Technical College and a bus operator for Metro Transit, was a beloved family man who enjoyed bringing joy to others. Described as a dedicated and hardworking individual, Byrd’s murder has left his family, friends, and colleagues at Metro Transit in shock and sadness.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the shooting on Monday night after gunfire was detected by the ShotSpotter system. Byrd was found dead, and the homicide detectives are currently investigating the case.

Members of Byrd’s family, including his aunt Ciara LePool, have expressed their shock and grief over his death, affirming that he did not deserve such a tragic end.
