Explosion Investigation in County Donegal Continues as Suspects Released Without Charge

CREESLOUGH, IRELAND – Two individuals who were arrested in relation to an explosion at a gas station in County Donegal that resulted in 10 fatalities in 2022 have been released without charge. The explosion in Creeslough took the life of a five-year-old girl among others, shaking the small village located in the northwest of Ireland.

The suspects, both in their 50s, were taken into custody on Friday and subsequently released on Saturday as the investigation by the Irish police (Gardaí) continues under the Donegal division. Authorities have disclosed their intentions to compile a report for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Creeslough, a closely-knit community with approximately 400 residents, was left reeling following the tragedy that claimed the lives of four men, three women, two teenagers, and the five-year-old girl, all of whom were either from the village or its surrounding areas. The incident remains one of the most devastating in the county in recent history.

Gardaí have been diligently pursuing the case, having pursued over 1,350 leads and obtaining more than 900 statements over the past year. The recent arrests mark the first significant development in the investigation into the explosion, initially believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

On the anniversary of the tragic event, Gardaí emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough and efficient investigation to address all aspects surrounding the incident professionally. The blast had resulted in numerous injuries, with eight individuals requiring hospital treatment for their wounds. As the community continues to mourn the loss of those affected, authorities are working tirelessly to provide answers and justice for the victims and their loved ones.
