Explosion Destroys Electric Transmission Pole at Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, No Human Casualty Reported

Bauchi, Nigeria – An explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device has destroyed a high-tension electric transmission pole in the Unguwan Kanawa area near Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. The incident, reportedly caused by unidentified individuals, resulted in the vandalization of government property.

The explosion took place on Thursday night, with no reported human casualties, but significant damage to the electricity transmission line. The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement released to journalists in Bauchi State.

The Chief Security Officer of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi reported the incident to the police after a loud sound was heard in the Ungwan Kanawa Area. The Bauchi State Police Command received the report and immediately deployed a team of operatives, including specialized personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemicals Biological Radioactive and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit to the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the high-tension pole collapsed and was damaged due to explosives used by suspected economic vandals. The area was cordoned off and swept for evidence by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemicals Biological Radioactive and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Operatives.

Some remnant components of Improvised Explosive Devices were recovered at the scene, prompting the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, to order a discreet and full-scale investigation into the incident to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the act and urged the people of the state to provide useful information that will aid investigations. He also reassured the public that the situation has been brought under control and encouraged them to go about their lawful businesses without fear. The state police are committed to securing the lives and property of the people and are seeking collaboration and support from the public to prevent further criminal activity.
