Elderly Driver Causes Fatal Collision with Bikers in Maharashtra City

Kolhapur, Maharashtra – A tragic car accident in Kolhapur city claimed the lives of three individuals and left six others injured on Monday. The incident occurred at Cyber Chowk when a 72-year-old man driving a Hyundai Santro collided with four bikes before crashing into a parked vehicle.

The CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment as the car sped through the intersection without any traffic lights, causing the collision with the bikers. The driver, identified as Vasant M Chavan, a retired Pro Vice-Chancellor of Shivaji University Kolhapur, was among the fatalities.

The video showed three bikes moving straight ahead, with a fourth crossing from right to left when the Hyundai Santro collided with them at 2:26 pm. The impact threw the riders and passengers several feet away, with the car hitting a pole and then a stationary vehicle before flipping onto its side.

Bystanders can be seen in the footage rushing to help the victims of the crash. One man was seen lifting a child from one of the bikes, while a woman needed assistance to stand up after the accident.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with the identities of the victims not yet disclosed. The community is left mourning the loss of three lives and hoping for the swift recovery of the injured individuals.
