East Chicago Residents Urged to Help Solve Two 2021 Unsolved Murders

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Authorities in East Chicago, Indiana, are seeking the public’s help in solving two unsolved murders that occurred in 2021. The victims, Eric Douglas and Angelica Casares, were both killed in separate shootings, and the cases have remained unresolved.

According to police, the homicide rate in East Chicago decreased by 55% last year, and the clearance rate for the cases that did occur was 80%. Despite this, the cases of Douglas and Casares remain challenging to crack, and the authorities are revisiting their cold cases in an effort to bring closure to the victims’ families.

Casares, a 21-year-old woman, was violently murdered with an AK-47, and her case has yet to be solved. Similarly, the case of Douglas, who was killed in an execution-style shooting on Christmas Day, remains a mystery. Surveillance video from inside the bar where Douglas was last seen alive shows the moments leading up to his tragic death, but the killer has not been identified.

Activists with “Case Files Chicago” have joined forces with the police department to urge witnesses to come forward with any information that might help solve the cases.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information that could lead to an arrest to contact either the East Chicago Police Department or “Case File Chicago’s” “Lock it Down” anonymous tip line at 1-800-U-TELL-US. The organization is also offering a $1,000 reward for any valuable information provided.
