Drive-By Shooting Injures 5, Kills Teen in Baton Rouge Spree

BATON ROUGE, La. – The new year began with a series of shooting incidents in Baton Rouge, leaving a teenager dead and four others injured. The shootings took place at three separate locations, with the victims being primarily juveniles.

According to local officials, a drive-by shooting occurred as the perpetrator(s) drove through multiple blocks and streets in the city. The incident resulted in the death of 15-year-old Ramide Cosey, with three other juvenile victims sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The shootings took place shortly before 2 p.m. on January 1, 2024, near the intersection of West Brookstown Dr. and Evangeline St.

Reports indicated that Cosey and two others were shot on Evangeline St., while another teenager was injured on Victory Dr., just a block away. Additionally, an adult was shot and injured on Linden St. All three shooting scenes were located within a mile’s distance from each other.

In total, five people were shot, with four of them being in stable condition after being transported to a hospital, and one person tragically losing their life. No further details, including the circumstances leading to the drive-by shooting or any arrests made, have been released at this time.
