Denver man convicted of killing witness to another murder receives life sentence without parole

DENVER, Colorado – Steven Young, 48, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of 32-year-old Charly Lewis in 2020. Young was found guilty of first-degree murder in August for the killing of Lewis, whose body was discovered in an alley in Denver, Colorado. Her death was the result of a fatal gunshot wound. It’s believed that Young killed Lewis because she had witnessed him murder another man, John Cyprian, just six days earlier in Aurora.

The body of Lewis was found behind 1065 Federal Blvd. on June 7, 2020, the day after which Young was arrested. This sentencing comes after Young had already been serving a life sentence for Cyprian’s murder.

This case highlights the impact of witness intimidation and the interconnected nature of violent crimes. The severity of Young’s sentence also serves as a reminder of the consequences perpetrators face for their actions.

The tragic events involving Lewis and Cyprian deeply affected their families and the local community, sparking conversations about the importance of addressing violence and ensuring the safety of witnesses in criminal cases.

The mandatory life sentence issued to Young reaffirms the justice system’s commitment to holding individuals accountable for their crimes, providing closure for the families of the victims, and sending a clear message about the consequences of committing such acts of violence.
