Community Gathers to Honor Laken Hope Riley, Slain Nursing Student, at Funeral Service

ATLANTA, Georgia – A community gathers to mourn the tragic loss of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Hope Riley, who was fatally attacked on the grounds of the University of Georgia. Friends and family will come together on Friday to pay tribute to her life and legacy.

The funeral service for Riley is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at Woodstock City Church. A visitation will precede the service at the church’s location on 150 Ridgewalk Pkwy in Woodstock, running from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

Described as an extraordinary daughter, sister, friend, and person overall, Riley’s obituary reflects on her deep devotion to her faith and how it radiated throughout all aspects of her life. Her loved ones express their commitment to honoring her memory in a profound manner as they navigate through their grieving process.

Survived by her mother, father, two sisters, brother, and grandparents, Riley’s family has requested donations to an online fundraiser set up to assist with funeral expenses, establish a scholarship in her honor, raise awareness about homicide, or support any other needs during this challenging time.

Riley’s vibrant spirit was suddenly dimmed when her lifeless body was discovered on the University of Georgia campus, sparking shock and grief throughout the community. The suspect in her murder, identified as Jose Antonio Ibarra, currently faces multiple charges, including malice murder and kidnapping.

Following a denial of bond by a judge, the case against Ibarra progresses, shedding light on the tragic incident that took Riley away from her loved ones. University officials confirm that Riley and Ibarra did not have any prior connection, leaving many perplexed by the senseless nature of the crime.

As the investigation unfolds and justice is sought for Riley, the community stands in solidarity to remember her as a shining member of society whose life was cut short by a violent act. The impact of her loss reverberates far and wide, underscoring the need for safety and vigilance in our communities.
