Birmingham, Alabama – The suspect in the shooting death of a 77-year-old man on Birmingham’s Parkway East has been charged with capital murder and other offenses. Anthony Dubose Jr., 25, is also facing charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and attempted murder in a separate incident. The victim, Stephen A. Keith Jr., was shot while driving, and later succumbed to his injuries at UAB Hospital.
The incident began with a 911 bulletin reporting an SUV shooting at a sedan at Edwards Lake Road and Gadsden Highway. The shooter was later located in the 9300 block of Parkway East, where a crash occurred, resulting in Keith’s injury. Another individual, the driver of the truck, was also hospitalized in serious condition.
The suspect was apprehended at Tom Bradford Park, with the assistance of various law enforcement agencies. The motive behind the shooting is still unclear, with authorities initially stating that Keith was caught in crossfire, but later determining that he had been targeted. This incident marks the 135th homicide in Birmingham this year.
Dubose is currently being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail. The investigation into this tragic event continues, with authorities working to bring justice for the victims and their families.
