Canada arrests 3 Indian suspects in killing of Khalistani terrorist Nijjar

New Delhi, India: Canadian Police made a significant breakthrough on Friday by apprehending three individuals believed to be involved in the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Alberta. The killing of Nijjar, a Canadian citizen with ties to India, had led to a strained relationship between India and Canada due to accusations made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding the involvement of “Indian agents” in the murder.

The suspects, Karan Brar, 22, Kamalpreet Singh, 22, and Karanpreet Singh, 28, have been residing in Alberta as non-permanent residents for several years, as confirmed by Superintendent Mandeep Mooker of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. They are facing charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, based on court documents.

Authorities stated that the arrested individuals were not previously known to law enforcement, prompting an investigation into any possible connections they may have had with the Indian government. Despite the arrests, the murder case of Nijjar remains an active investigation, as emphasized by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Assistant Commissioner David Teboul during a press conference.

Trudeau’s allegations against India following Nijjar’s assassination had triggered a diplomatic fallout between the two nations, resulting in the expulsion of diplomats. The incident reignited tensions earlier this week when separatist slogans promoting ‘Khalistan’ were raised at an event attended by Trudeau. Subsequently, India expressed strong disapproval by summoning the Deputy High Commissioner.

India’s response to Trudeau’s remarks highlighted concerns over Canada’s tolerance towards separatism and extremism, accusing the country of fostering an environment conducive to violence and criminal activities that could harm its citizens. The ongoing developments surrounding Nijjar’s case underscore the complex political dynamics and challenges faced by both Canada and India in managing bilateral relations amidst contentious issues.
