Businesses Affected by Downtown Fort Worth Hotel Explosion Eligible for Disaster Recovery Grants

Fort Worth, Texas – Businesses affected by an explosion at a downtown Fort Worth hotel earlier this year now have the opportunity to apply for grant money to aid in their rebuilding efforts. The explosion, which occurred at the Signature Sandman Downtown Hotel, has left businesses in the vicinity struggling to operate normally due to street closures that have been in place since January 8.

The cleanup process following the explosion is expected to continue for several more weeks, further delaying the reopening of affected businesses. To support these businesses, the Local Development Corporation recently approved a $250,000 disaster recovery stimulus program. Eligible businesses located on 8th Street, between Throckmorton and Houston Street, can now apply for up to $50,000 in grant money.

Business owners who receive the grant will have six months to provide evidence of how the funds were used for program-eligible expenses, such as rent/mortgage, employee support, utilities, supplies, or other approved business needs. This financial assistance aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by these businesses as they work towards recovery and reopening in the aftermath of the explosion.

The grant program emphasizes the importance of supporting local businesses and job creation initiatives in Fort Worth, underscoring the community’s resilience in the face of unexpected challenges. By providing financial assistance to businesses affected by the explosion, the city aims to facilitate a smooth recovery process and ensure these establishments can continue to contribute to the local economy.

In addition to the grant program, efforts are ongoing to expedite the cleanup process and reopen the affected areas for business operations. The city continues to work towards restoring normalcy and vitality to the downtown area, recognizing the significance of these businesses in shaping the local commercial landscape. As businesses begin to rebuild and recover, the community stands united in its support for their efforts and resilience in the face of adversity.
