Broward County Man Charged in FHP Trooper and Truck Driver Deaths Arrested Multiple Times

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A Broward County man has been arrested in connection with the tragic deaths of a state trooper and a truck driver after leading authorities on a high-speed chase on Interstate 95. Michael Addison, 30, has a history of arrests in Broward County and was wanted on warrants for aggravated battery and weapons charges.

The pursuit led to the fatal crash that claimed the lives of 26-year-old Trooper James Zachary Fink and the truck driver on Friday morning. While officials have not publicly disclosed Addison’s motive for fleeing from law enforcement, court records reveal a troubling history of criminal behavior.

In May 2022, Addison’s probation was revoked following an incident where he was accused of choking his ex-girlfriend and failing to comply with probation-related fees. Although prosecutors were unable to move forward with the domestic violence case due to lack of evidence and cooperation from the victim, the revocation of Addison’s probation led to a one-year jail sentence.

Additionally, Addison had been involved in identity theft and theft of property, including stealing iPhones and using fake identification to open debit card accounts. Despite facing charges in these instances, prosecutors dropped the cases due to lack of evidence and video footage proving his innocence.

Court records from Miami-Dade County also indicate that Addison received probation for weapons charges, including possession on school property, and had faced burglary and grand theft charges in 2012. His history of unpaid fines, failed probation, and eviction from an apartment in Broward County paint a picture of a troubled individual with a pattern of criminal behavior.

As the investigation continues, Addison remains in custody at the St. Lucie County Jail without bond. The arrest report for the recent incident has not been released by the Florida Highway Patrol or the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, leaving many questions unanswered as the community mourns the loss of the trooper and the innocent truck driver.
