Avenal Homicide Suspect Jose Valedez Jr. Arrested for Murder 01/02/2023

AVENAL, Calif. — The Kings County Sheriff’s Office has made significant progress in the investigation of a homicide in Avenal, following the arrest of Jose Valedez Jr. for the murder of Avenal resident Rudy Moralez.

The incident occurred on Central Avenue, just north of Dome Street, on Saturday night, when the Avenal Police Department responded to a call about a man lying in the road. Upon arrival, officers found Moralez with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen. He was rushed to Coalinga Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim’s family expressed shock and devastation at the senseless act, emphasizing Moralez’s reputation as a loving and helpful individual. According to Moralez’s family, he had no known enemies and was well-loved in the community.

As the investigation continues, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Valedez, who is now in custody, likely knew the victim. The shooting took place in close proximity to both their homes, and they were both on foot at the time of the incident.

With the case still ongoing, the sheriff’s office urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. In the meantime, the community has come together to support Moralez’s family by contributing to a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
