Arrests Made in Davangere Protest Violence Case Resulting in Damage and Injuries

Bangalore, India – The Davangere district police have taken action against 25 individuals following violent protests in Channagiri regarding the death of a man in police custody. Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth deployed five teams to apprehend those responsible for damaging police property and injuring officers.

Law enforcement authorities utilized CCTV footage and cell phone videos to identify and arrest the culprits involved in the vandalism. The Channagiri station police have filed six cases related to the violence, resulting in 25 arrests across four cases.

The unrest began after a man named Adil died in police custody after being brought in on charges related to gambling. The incident sparked accusations of a ‘lock-up death,’ prompting a protest outside the Channagiri police station. The peaceful demonstration escalated into violence, leaving 11 police officers injured.

Opposition parties blamed the government for failing to maintain law and order, leading to the suspension of two police officers. Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed in Channagiri as a precautionary measure, with authorities monitoring social media for any incendiary posts.

In a statement, Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced an inquiry into the alleged custodial death, resulting in the suspension of an Inspector and a DySP for negligence. He assured that appropriate action would be taken following the investigation. The situation remains tense as the community grapples with the fallout from the incident.

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining peace and order in the region, urging the public to refrain from spreading inflammatory content on social media. The ongoing investigation aims to bring justice and accountability for those involved in the violent protests and the tragic death of Adil.
