Rockford, Illinois – A horrific stabbing rampage on Wednesday afternoon in Rockford, Illinois, has left the community in shock. A 22-year-old man, identified as Christian Soto, has been arrested in connection with the incident that claimed the lives of four individuals in just 20 minutes, including a U.S. postal worker and a teenage girl. During a news conference on Thursday, Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley revealed that Soto, who faces multiple charges including murder and attempted murder, claimed that he was under the influence of marijuana that he believed had been laced with a powerful drug by one of the victims. Hanley expressed uncertainty about the motive behind the brutal attacks, as Soto was reportedly conscious and able to recall details of each assault.
Among those tragically killed in the attacks were 15-year-old Jenna Newcomb, 49-year-old Jay Larson, and 63-year-old Romona Schubach and her 23-year-old son, Jacob Schubach. Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara emotionally shared that Newcomb had heroically sacrificed her life to protect her sister and a friend from further harm during the rampage.
